Maine

Coastal towns, island experiences, and custom programs from Southern Maine to Acadia.

Build Your Program

Maine combines historic coastal towns, working harbors, island communities, a nationally recognized food scene, and some of New England's most dramatic natural landscapes. Visitlandia coordinates accommodations, transportation, guides, dining, coastal experiences, and multi-day programs across Southern Maine, Greater Portland, the Midcoast, and Mount Desert Island — typically anchored around a Kennebunkport → Portland & Casco Bay → Camden / Midcoast → Bar Harbor & Acadia corridor, built south to north or north to south depending on the itinerary.

Where to Explore

Where to Stay

Best Hotels by Area

Portland

Hotels in and around the Old Port work particularly well for city stays, food-focused programs, meetings, and Maine itineraries beginning or ending in Portland.

Cape Elizabeth

Inn by the Sea gives you a coastal resort option close enough to combine with Portland.

Cape Neddick / Ogunquit

Cliff House Maine gives the southern coast a major resort product with Atlantic views and event capability.

Kennebunkport

White Barn Inn and Hidden Pond give you two very different upper-end products — historic and intimate versus a wooded resort.

Camden

16 Bay View and Camden's waterfront inns provide walkable access to the harbor, restaurants, and sailing programs.

Bar Harbor / Mount Desert Island

Use Bar Harbor accommodations as the primary base for Acadia programs, with resort and historic inn alternatives elsewhere on Mount Desert Island.

Planning Notes

When to Go, How to Get Around

Spring
A quieter period for Portland and Southern Maine, while seasonal coastal and Acadia operations gradually reopen — good for city programs and lower-traffic coastal touring.
Summer
Peak season for the coast, islands, boating, Acadia, outdoor dining, and resort stays — hotels, transportation, guides, restaurants, and experiences should be secured well in advance.
Fall
One of Maine's strongest periods for multi-day touring, combining coastal towns, Acadia, outdoor experiences, and fall foliage.
Winter
Portland remains viable year-round, while many coastal resort areas become significantly quieter and seasonal businesses may close or reduce operations. Acadia remains accessible but has substantial seasonal road and facility changes.
Getting Around

Unlike Boston or Newport, Maine should not be sold as one walkable destination. Portland itself is compact and walkable, but regional programs require private vehicles, chauffeured transportation, or motorcoach service.

Maine has intercity bus connections to destinations including Portland, Brunswick, Camden, Rockland, Belfast, and Bangor.

Portland to Bar Harbor is roughly a three-hour drive, so Acadia should normally be treated as a separate overnight component rather than a Portland day trip.

For Casco Bay, ferries operate year-round from Portland, although schedules vary seasonally.
